After talking and soaking in a hot tub late last night... and [profile] patgreene discovering that Olympic dressage was showing on cable from 2-4am... we got up late and didn't leave Seattle until noon. Since we also stopped and spent three-plus hours in the Columbia Gorge, we didn't get to our motel here on the California coast until nearly 1am.

The boys were fascinated by the Bonneville Dam, where we picnicked... in particular, the fish ladder, which has windows from the visitor center such that one can view wild fish swimming by randomly, aquarium-style. Pat and I enjoyed the scenery :).

Then, a long haul down to Crescent City... tomorrow, down 101 through redwoods and Cloverdale and J, and her kids (more shatter cones to drop off ;) and then hopefully home by evening.

Pat and Lisa, just before she went off to her gallery and we departed southward... it was a good visit there, I think in several ways :).

At Bonneville Dam, a view of a wild salmon passing through the fish ladder. This really excited the kids...

In the gorge, I experimented with waterfalls and perspectives, using my tiny digital Casio camera... here's one that apparently enlarges James next to Horsetail Falls:

Or Multnomah Falls refreshes David with a cool drink ;-)

And rather than take all of the photos, I persuaded James to take a picture of Pat and myself near the 1916 Vista House, overlooking the gorge...

I didn't know that your relatives came from that area... and thanks!

My grandparents moved there during the 30's. (So he could work on dams.)

But your posts don't show up in my Friends pages. Are you doing something unusual with the date or time on them?

I noticed it with both this post and the previous one, fwiw.

Pictures are great-- I really like the one of you and Pat, and the perspectives with the falls are amusing.

Is that still happening? I haven't done anything different (and posted last night)...

Not still happening. The redwood trees are beautiful. I was going to say "I miss them" because its been a while since I spent several days amid coastal redwoods, but then I realized I could sit on the swing on the front porch. Duh.

You're making me homesick for the Northwest. Thanks for sharing.
