We got up yesterday in Crescent City... it was cool and very moist. Lots of rain. After Sunday brunch, we headed down 101... driving along the seashore on a muddy dirt road, at one point.
We drove through many redwood groves, down the Avenue of the Giants, and then back down Route 1 to the beach above Mendocino. Thence inland to have pizza with J, kids W & C, and then the familiar 124 miles home. Arriving around 10pm... 55 hours driving, 2660 total miles, two countries, three national parks...
We stopped near a grove with a huge burned-out tree... here partially blocked by David ;-)

Near the visitor center grows a once-thought-extinct dawn redwood... here's the sign:

And a Dawn Redwood, which grows to "normal" tree height rather than towering like other redwoods. Soft and pale green, with all due respect to
dawnd and
purplerabbit (smile)...

And then we stopped for dinner in Cloverdale... it was fun to have one more large multi-family gathering, as well as this hug :).
