Readjusting to being home with [profile] patgreene at the same time... we've only overlapped at home for something like five days in the past five weeks. And I need to dig out -- catch up on putting away laundry, decluttering, bills, etc. Same thing at work... so far, I'm focussed with getting people and details settled for the deployment to Spain in 17 days. We *still* don't have a contract with a satellite vendor, but the guy handling satellite communications has been seriously ill (and is close to finishing, so I need to just hold back from diving in and micromanaging). His assistant is going to Madrid in his place, given the health issues.

[personal profile] hopeforyou is her old self, motivated, and as productive as I've seen her here. We will probably bring a temporary communications/sysadmin person on board for a few weeks to run the mission operations simulation setup at CAB in Madrid. But AR is going, too, and I have to keep others from killing him in frustration (wry grin). I feel sheepish (only a bit) but I hope I'm not on the same plane with him, going over... we will have 7 people on various flights going out on 9/10, arriving Saturday morning in Madrid and staying out in the eastern suburbs near the worksite. Once the remote system is working there in the parking lot, we'll redeploy en masse five hours drive south to Rio Tinto around 9/16, and test it from next year's planned drilling sites. Then most folks go home around 9/22-23, while I'll stay on to support ground-truth drilling for another week and return 9/30.

This week is the deadline for equipment shipping...

And I need to get more sleep. Being up until 3am for two nights in a row made it hard to stay awake in an after-lunch meeting today...

Drills

I met [livejournal.com profile] grynz at M's machine shop last night, where I got the Full Tour of the Shop. In addition to getting some fascinating perspective shifts about the Industrial Revolution (hey, I'm a history buff), I got to see drills and deepen my appreciation for what it is that you do at analog test sites. My hat is off to you.

Thanks... just repeat after me, "dry drilling without a lubricant", preferably in a meeting, without giggling...

um, Jay, do you really want me to take the bait you've left out there?
