quiet time online

This is the quiet time for me, online... apart from a few souls at NASA working very late, there's very little email traffic, and almost no IM or LJ updates. Kind of lonely, if I weren't generally busy here in the lab....

Lots of cores... 9 so far, nearly a day's worth before lunch (!). My hands are grey... each one takes about a half-hour to process.

not really a direct comment on your post, but...

Seeing the word "cores" (especially with a number in close proximity) makes me twitch right now, thanks to the huge undertaking I'm in the middle of at work right now. Heh. Totally different variety of cores, of course, but still... Please don't start talking about chips in the same sentence as cores, okay? ;) If you avoid that, I think I'll be okay. ;)

We wound up with a 15-core day... whew.
(shakes the tiny chips and slivers of rock from the back of his hands)

It's all silicon... with amounts of metallic impurities in interesting arrangements, right? Mine even has its own bugs (well, Archaea and methanogens).

(hug) good luck as the end of the week approaches...

I'm almost done with the heavy lifting, I just need to review the output and herd people into reviewing the updates and signing off on them. That's going to be the really hard part right there.
