Mine is 54 inches long... my new 3/4" drill bit, that is. I've spent the day drilling holes in walls and pulling 8/3 NM cable, installing a new 50A outlet for the range. The old outlet will soon support a separate 1950's-vintage stainless Thermador oven, and then eventually the range gets replaced by a counter and cooktop. The loads are still OK... I have a 40A breaker, but 6/3 wire coming from the service panel... more than enough. And I'm using 8-gauge wire for the two outlets, which code says is good enough for 40A. And neither will come close to that ( max. oven current is 20A, max cooktop will be 28A). But I haven't done heavy-duty circuits before...

I had to drill through nearly a foot of solid wood in one spot -- my existing 9" wasn't long enough, so I looked for enlargement at Home Depot, picking up a 54" flexible drill bit for about $20. Time to stop writing, and go put the wood panelling back up on the LR walls...
