Report from [profile] patgreene.... she's a "mobile field attorney" for Election Protection, driving in a circuit around 5 precincts, checking periodically since 5:45am ET. Her assigned partner (a law student) flaked, so she's driving and navigating by herself ([personal profile] dawnd will appreciate this ;).

At one precinct, one candidate for public defender was vociferously arguing over the location of the 50-foot line for campaigning. Heavy turnout, 90-minute waits there... she's overheated and trying to stay cool (92F and humid in Tampa).

Wow. When you talk to her next, pass on my deepest respect, please. I'm so thrilled that there are so many of the people I know out fighting for this to be done correctly- no matter the outcome. I feel like I should be out doing more, actually.

Thanks -- she was just exhausted, last night, working 18-hours straight. All three of the students who were supposed to show up to assist her (Election Protection was operating on a "buddy system") didn't show. Kind of like the 18-24 turnout in the election, symbolically. Sigh.

Hey... both my sister (18) and I (24) voted yesterday. Doing what I can there, y'know?

It's hard to think it matters, though.

(grimace) yeah. It may take a draft, and more war abroad, to motivate young people to vote. Not that other demographic groups protected their interests, either...
