Today's APL meeting was useful... parts of my NASA air traffic project are duplicated by DoD-supported efforts, so I now have a good idea of where best to trim mine before we actually have to freeze its makeup.

OTOH, it ended earlier than forecast -- I was out by 3pm. I feel a bit sheepish, because if I'd expected it I could have checked out of the hotel this morning and caught a 6pm flight out of BWI... now, it is too late for that, let alone the last 5:30pm departure out of DCA. I feel lucky to get to see Cathy tonight, but a bit guilty for not getting home sooner (and incurring another night's hotel charge).

Weather here is reminiscent of SF, cool and drizzle with fog. I think I'll redeem myself workwise by using the uninterrupted quiet time here to finish an overdue proposal.

Has the change in Washington administration mede it easier or harder for you to get your project funded? I expect that the new Homeland Security director might be more sympathetic.

Arguably easier to get funded... but harder to accomplish, because DoD and DHS want an interconnected airspace network that shares data seamlessly with their systems. Which means things like access control and classification servers and role identification... lots of security-related legwork. And NASA isn't really set up for secure R&D -- our research buildings aren't shielded and few of the staff have clearances (I've never had one, myself).

Think they'd give you a security clearance if neccesary?

Probably... but I'm not sure I want one, frankly.
