look, Mom, no hands!

Well it isn't perfect, but this speech recognition system, isn't horrible either.
I'm going to try to use this system to assist me with my over due geophysics paper.
There will probably be lots of typographical errors, or word this matches, but it will be easier to capture the meaning now and go back and edit the words later.

And it seems to work better than expected in instant messaging, which opens new possibilities....

other than not knowing what "word this matches" means, it looks pretty darn good to me.

Glad to see you're making some productive use of your time.

"word this matches" ==> "word mismatches", ironically... ;)

I was thinking of "wordless matches" somehow. I got the concept of what you were trying to say, but couldn't figure out what words you'd said.

woohoo for irony.

Just be careful for the "men who have sex with me" and "initial pubic offerings".

Free VOIP systems like Skype pretty much trump IM voice-to-text systems, IMO.

eh. Not for me... I don't really like using the telephone. And IMs can have several-minute pauses without it seeming unusual, while a 5-minute pause in a phone call would probably cause problems...
