backwards, blade-first

Tonight in my skating lesson I learned two new maneuvers, as well as how to be more graceful ;). The former... I learned how to do a "choctaw", going from a forward inside edge to a backward outside edge. And how to do a backwards arabesque or spiral... gliding parallel to the ice, leg and torso extended, in this case blade-first.

Otherwise... David had a successful audition for a boy's choir (Ragazzi, suggested by coyote3502 back in November). It is expensive, and he's a bit old to start (only 2 years before his voice changes) but he loves to sing...

And work has been intense.

How can you tell ahead of time when a young man's voice is likely to change? Is there a good correlation with older brother or father? Are there some early clues of puberty from which one can start the clock, so to speak?

The local elite choral groups have "Children's Chorus" for ages 10-13 and "Young Men's Chorus" for changed voices. I sometimes wonder how that must feel for a singer whose voice hasn't changed by age 14.

Anyway, congratulations! I hope the audition was a good experience for David.

I'm glad that worked out well for him. I'm beginning to think I'm going to have to have Maddie audition for Girl's chorus. I know I can't afford it any better than Sarah's ballet but the girl can sing and hold a tune well at this age. Of course, she *also* needs ballet. In some ways she's better than Sarah though I won't tell Sarah that.

Anyway, enough of my stuff. Yeah yeah yeah on David!!!!!
