Pleasantly rolling on the prairie
Feb. 5th, 2005 02:56 pmYesterday I spend catching up on work in the morning, while Nancy was away... then again last night, after I got figuratively kicked in the backside in an email from my boss, cc'd to his boss... I was both depressed and annoyed. There's a colleague, HC, who my boss hired originally and who he tends to credit with anything good that happens in my group. Anything stressful or problematic, however, he views as my fault (since I'm the group lead).
Dave, Nancy and I went to an excellent Mexican place in St. Paul (La Cucaracha, heh) where I drowned my stress in spiked cider and a large margarita ;). Then we went downtown to the Landmark Center (converted century-old former courthouse) for part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival -- "Klondike Kate's Cabaret", with a dozen or so Kates in 19th C. saloon-dancer costumes singing and dancing and making truly lame jokes...

The guys in crested red hats, goggles and capes are "Vulcans" (normal ears, though ;), there to bring subversive warmth from the south and vanquish the court of the Winter King... something like that. Hey, it's Carnival season, Mardi Gras is next Tuesday...
Yesterday I was happy to meet
mnfiddledragon with Nancy for lunch... she was amiable and friendly and we talked for two hours over soup about parenting and group households and the local poly group's follies and geology and earthquakes. It was a lot of fun. As was meeting
faeryguinevere for coffee this morning with Dave and Nancy. Although she looked a bit nervous at first (we outnumbered her;) we talked back and forth about graduate schools and local real estate and group households (again ;). And she skates! And I learned new things which now clarify previous mysteries in her journal. (smile)
And today... afterward, I picked up spices for
patgreene at Penzey's, a mail-order/online spice merchant who has a local store here...

Which smelled wonderful. :) Lots more natural-processed bulk cocoa powder for Pat's brownies. :^).
This afternoon... go skating, then tonight celebrate our 6-year anniversary.

It's kind of funny thinking of Penzey's primarily as a mail order/online store, since I initially knew it as the good old fashioned store :) If you like tea, the next time you're through here, you guys should check out The TeaSource (http://www.teasource.com)
