supportive, but fragrant

Tonight I had a date with [personal profile] tenacious_snail... my mission was to provide support on a difficult anniversary date. We were going to cook together... but Les wasn't up to shopping and so we went to a nearby Ethiopian cafe in Berkeley. Then had king cake (yes, I know it's Lent, but still...) back at her place. I tucked her in after midnight and headed to Wine and Song.

I caught [profile] ag_unicorn there in time to hand off the bunch of purple irises and candy from James to A... hung out for an hour or so, then went home. Whereupon [profile] patgreene said "whew! You've been eating garlic!"... apparently there must have been a lot in the Ethiopian food. Sigh... I must have been less-than-pleasant to hug at W&S, and never realized it.

nonsense!

You were a delightful hug, more than once, last night!

I didn't notice a whiff of garlic!

To be fair, I wouldn't have minded it if I HAD noticed - garlic is food of the gods, but seriously - I didn't notice a thing!

Pat probably knows very well what you smell like, and can smell minute changes, and is able to identify their sources. It's nice to have someone know you that well, I think :)

Really - a perfectly lovely hug! ((hugs)) again! See!?!

P.S. Did the ice cream make it home okay?

Ulp. I left it in the freezer at W&S. (blush) I'll have to find a different way to get it to Les.

Thanks for the reassurance! I'm relieved. :)

Hey, no worries on the ice cream - it's probably best if it isn't taken out of the freezer too often, so maybe she'll end up with it after only one more removal, somehow! And the beauty of sorbet is - it'll be yummy no matter WHEN she gets it ;)

Garlic is indeed the food of the gods. I am fond of The Stinking Rose, and (less expensively) Johnny Garlic's. When I drive through Gilroy, I always throw the windows open wide.

Then I wouldn't have had to worry about it if I'd kissed you! (grin)

Like hot peppers, for me... I like to overindulge at times, but preferably when those around me are doing likewise ;^).

Which Ethiopian did you go to? My 2 favorite ones of the 6-7 Ethiopian restaurants along Telegraph are Cafe Colucci on Telegraph and 65th, and Cafe Eritrea d'Afrique on Telegraph and 40th.

We went to Cafe Colucci, which struck me as an oddly Italianate name for an Ethiopian cafe (until I recalled the years of colonialism). Seasoned lamb and lentils and salad... yum.

You know, I didn't notice the smell of garlic at a conscious level (and I do love it), but when I was looking at your dish, I couldn't tell if those were lamb bones in cross section, or if they were slices of large cloves of garlic. So, clearly, I must have had a perception of the garlic at some level.

Those *were* bones (which was a challenge) but that doesn't rule out garlic as well...
