I'm in my office right now, at 1am... I'm briefing the NASA associate administrator for space science (whose organization funds all of my projects) in 6.5 hours, I have to be back here shortly after 7am.

Why am I here late? My black Mustang's transmission failed this afternoon, while taking a late lunch with runeshower. My attempts to revive it failed, I couldn't nurse it home, and eventually had to call for a tow truck. And it was raining today. (shakes head) I've already paid $3800, then sunk $1800 in various repairs, now comes a probable $2K more to replace a transmission that only had 5K miles on it (but 2 years garaged in storage).

So, I'm back to collect my things and close the office and turn off the coffeemaker. tenacious_snail came over while I was gone and watched and fed the kids... then I went back to her place and then borrowed her car (so I can get here in the morning...). Sigh... at least I swapped the cookies. And I was happy to see Anita again...

Otherwise... some stressful email, and patgreene may have been exposed to poison oak while at science camp with David today.

I'm wondering if it wouldn't be worthwhile to trade this car in for something else.

(wry grin) after replacing the fuel system, belts, all hoses, water pump, radiator, exhaust system, convertible top... now the transmission... seems like the only thing I haven't replaced is the engine block, radio and tires.

You'd be surprised the number of things you could find that you haven't replaced yet. Your experience with this Ford is starting to more closely resemble my own experience with them.

It's okay about the call, I wasn't feeling terribly well last night anyway. We can reschedule for another time.

Shouldn't the tranny still be under warranty? I'm pretty sure my new one is guaranteed for 12k miles or something like that. Of course, to get warranty service on it, I have to go to Van Nuys...

Sounds almost like time for a new car. :) I'm driving my Neon -- cracked head gasket -- into the ground. When it's in the ground, we're going to try to find a used Subaru wagon with more than $100k on it.
