Temporarily, while the NASA telecoms office transfers the number over to my new phone -- a Treo 650 that apparently came in yesterday. I should be able to pick it up this afternoon... good thing, as my old 3-year-old Motorola T720 is both flaky and the batteries barely recharge.

In the meanwhile, my cell number is unavailable this afternoon...

Having picked it up, I was dismayed to discover that they had decided to switch me from Verizon to Sprint. No wonder the Treo showed up so quickly... I'd planned to wait until Verizon had it in June. This means that various Verizon-using folks who used to get free mobile-to-mobile calls to my phone, now won't... plus, Sprint appears to have zero reception from my office. Feh.

Yay! We'll have to start handing you software now. *grin* Might I suggest an SD card, too? 128M is handy- and allows for auto-backups to be taken while you sleep.

I'm gonna go sing the doom song now!
Doom, doom, doom, doom, de doom!

Why not a bigger SD, like 1GB? Memory-management issues?

I'd be happy right now just to get the blasted thing to work *as a phone*...

No, not that at all- 128M was a minimum, not a max. The 1G cards are lovely. I'm managing on 2 128's at the moment, but might give in soon.

We do need to make a Fry's run somehow tomorrow.... they carry SD cards, among other things.

(Also, I bet you can switch back to verizon once they carry the phones, if you wanted to.. they can be unlocked.)

There's no Sprint coverage in either my office or home... I'm on the verge of just returning everything and asking them to restore my old phone.

If you can untangle the service provider problems and get your number assigned back to verizon, I can find you a conversion process (http://php.chol.com/~mines/photo/028/) for the phone. Hell - I could do it myself if I had the cable - they cost about $50 to buy, or $20 in parts and 20 minutes with a steadier soldering hand (http://shadowmite.com/650serial.html) than I've got.

Just sayin'.

(nods) or I could wait for June and hopefully get EVDO and 1 Mbit/sec with the labelled Verizon version...
