For four years, I've had a black leather lounge chair in storage, waiting for the kids to get older (so as not to put it too much at risk). Now, it's out and in use and very comfortable (as I sit here typing one-fingeredly).

Readers familiar with mid-20th-Century architecture and furniture, or frequent MOMA patrons in NYC will probably recognize it:



Today tenacious_snail and James helped me pick up and move a nice 4-year-old modern-style Italian black leather couch by Celia, replacing a tattered and stained sleeper that we'd had since 1990. I bought it from a venture capitalist who was engaged and whose fiance thought the couch was too large for the tiny living room in his condo... and who wanted to bring in hers.

Isn't that black chair some sort of 'therapist's chair'? I saw a documentary on that once.

(grin) probably, it's an iconic sort of furniture item, an Eames lounge chair. The design dates to the mid-50s, and it is very comfy as well as durable (the lower back cushion gives great lumbar support).

I got it years ago on eBay, now I'd have to pay double for it. I'm willing to forgive the object its status-symbol overtones because I like the way it looks and feels so much...
