A non-golfer in VT...

I'm going to be spending next week in Fairlee, Vermont at some resort or other, attending a kickoff meeting for a new lunar regolith sampling prototype (we're doing the automation and controls). The Army guys who are running this meeting have set up the agenda to meet early and after dinner in order to leave afternoons free. They all play golf. Guess what this resort features... I don't play and don't choose to learn. So will be on my own afternoons... anyone familiar with the area have any ideas? Places to visit? I haven't been to VT in 20 years, and that was in winter... hmm. I intend to do *something* fun or constructive...

Well, there's a couple of really nice lakes in the area. You could see if someone rents canoes, or rowboats, or something. Or swim, except next week'll still be kind of cold for that.

(I went to summer camp in Fairlee.)

Rent a car, drive around and explore, and then hike.

canoeing... the resort's on a lake (Morley?) that's an excellent suggestion, thanks.

Hiking and boating seem popular for this time of year in inland New England. I don't know how close to New Hampshire you are, but I seem to recall that they are a no sales tax state, so people flock to the outlets there in order to buy things (do you need an high-ticket items?)

I'd suggest bringing along any papers or proposals that you need to work on, a book to read, and something devotional (which, for me, goes really well with hiking or sitting beside a lake).

And bug repellent... (college memories of biting black flies in NE ;) . And you reminded me that I have two papers to write this summer!

Laura's parents usually travel during bug season and mud season. I knew that there were more seasons in NE, but I didn't realize that those were two of them.

Don't forget "road work season".
