slight turbulence

Things are still overall looking well, with a bit of turbulence... despite my car refusing to start this morning and having to be towed to the shop. Which then meant being late to meet LH, then (after LH dropped me at home) had to miss a meeting with SD. OTOH, my NASA Headquarters program manager called me this morning and innocently asked if I'd received the extra $180K in project funds, yet... a pleasant surprise. :)

And we're being asked to bring cardboard and Legos and pieces of wood to the project kick-off meeting next week in Vermont... to make mockups of possible instrument combinations. That sounds like fun... A room full of Army Corps of Engineers folks and NASA and JPL scientists, in a room playing with Legos to make lunar lander models. Heh.

And in Vermont, yet. *whimper* :-)

All we'll need is the ghost of von Braun... ;^)

I would say "boys and their toys", but I'm assuming there will be a few females there, so I'll go with "geeks and their toys".

Have fun!!

Thanks! BTW, are you still coming out here the following week?

[identity profile] datagoddess.livejournal.com 2005-06-03 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, financially it didn't work out, plus I didn't want to be around a lot of friends this soon after the breakup. Since I was coming out for a wedding, I wanted to cry for good reasons, not bad ones.

But just wait till you try to sort out the Legos at the end!! Seriously, though, I can SO see this. *chuckle* Have fun!

Thanks... I'm trying to figure out how to represent control flow diagrams using lego-blocks.

You need a lot of those really skinny ones.

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
AKD has ones that remind me of train tracks. Those might work.

[identity profile] dawnd.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Some of those ARE train tracks!

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2005-06-03 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Lego train tracks? Hmmm...

Tinker toys!

I'm envious. Can we take cardboard, Legos, and pieces of wood to LA, and have those guys mockup their drill?

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 08:02 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that drill made of those, already?

[identity profile] dawnd.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
*snort* This one needed a drink warning!

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2005-06-03 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
(bows) your tax dollars at work, madame...

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
*hugs*

and appreciations for your ability to do course corrections in the earlier-than-expected turbulence.

(smile) yesterday afternoon was bumpy, last night... splat. Thanks for your support.

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2005-06-02 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
you're most entirely welcome.

Splat is not so good, but surrounding yourself with friends for it is the way to go.

Yesterday was better, I think that you guys caught me (in a good way) at the trough of it Wednesday night.
