Going into Target and buying KNex and Legos... for official business. The poor clerk had to call in two layers of mgmt to figure out how to do a Federal tax exempt sale...
In my days at McDuck, I used to work with a guy who built a 1/10th scale model of the ISS out of K'Nex. (The thing was about thirty feet long.) It had articulated solar arrays and thermal radiator panels, a robotic trolley (for the Mobile Servicing Center) that shuttled back and forth on the truss, and two articulated robotic arms (one for the Station and the other for the Shuttle.)
He ended up buying out all of the K'Nex inventories for SoCal for the project and had to call back to the factory in Europe for more parts.
The last that I heard, he was taking the thing around to conferences, education expos, and such and charging $15k a pop for the display rental, setup, and teardown.
