Yesterday we slept in a bit after a very late previous night (2am for others, 5am for me), then split up: [profile] patgreene and James went to the Art Institute, I took David and Kevin to see dinosaur fossils and Egyptian relics at the Field Museum. Then we left Chicago, stopping for a picnic lunch at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Lake Michigan had surf! But no seashells, of course... it was strange seeing waves with nothing washed up except flat pebbles.

Then we drove on to my Aunt and Uncle's lakeside house near Mt. Vernon, OH, passing through Toledo (the *other* one ;)

David and Kevin here in front of "Sue", the T. rex fossil in the main hall of the Field. They thought it would be bigger (!).

In the Egyptian tomb exhibit, the inscriptions (and mummies) seemed to spook David a bit...

After escaping a near-accident while leaving Chicago, a calming picnic lunch at the shore...

Passing through Toledo... this one was greener-but-duller... and I missed [personal profile] dawnd.

Did you know I have relatives in Ohio? My grandpa was from somewhere in OH (dont' know where), and I have an aunt and uncle still living in Bowling Green.

No, I didn't know that -- we passed within a few miles of Bowling Green, actually. In any case, I thought of you fondly while leaving Toledo... ;^).

My dad was from Ohio -- I do not know exactly where, as we never really talked about it.

David has the exact expression on his face that Sean gets just pre-meltdown. :-) I think there are pictures of me doing that same thing, too.

(wry grin) spot-on, ten minutes later he wanted to be *anywhere* else... we wound up in the bird collection, where I saw that passenger pigeons had had copper-colored breasts but were otherwise the same size and shape as other pigeons.

Know what? AFAIKT they /both/ have the same look.

I'm not entirely sure what it is, just that it is the same.
