Some wrap-up details

Here's a photo of the master HMP map showing the provisional names given, including now the features I named on the Bear Bay West map, other side of 90W from the crater. Korolev Planitia actually extends about 10km further south, Pascal has just the north end of it labelled, it's about 8x15km of orange-redness. But he decided to also name the river through Dad's canyon, which flows out to Thomas Lee Inlet.

From a geocaching perspective, I suppose that naming the underlying landforms is a bit surreal... there isn't all that much unvisited terrain left on this planet. Most people are happy to name caches. :) I also filed a request for a new cache, "End of The World":

contained in a battered stainless thermos shown here before being placed at the "Fortress" rock butte near the runway. The name comes from a Resolute t-shirt "Resolute isn't the end of the world, but you can see it from here"... although there are actually two geocaches further north than this one, it also refers to the other-worldly Mars -analog nature of the site.

One final view of the midnight sun, over the greenhouse very early Friday... note the blue sky... can't complain about the weather, the past week was excellent overall.

And then, off to Resolute, with Jeff and I still muddy from our crater traverse... here are both of us with my sister Vicky, just before boarding:

And finally, the first of the six southward flight hops that cover the 3600 miles to home:

is Thomas Lee Pascal's father? (just thinking that would be interesting serendipity to have two dad-named things in proximity)

It would have been amusing, but I believe Thomas Lee was a 19th century sailor.

at least this time, I'm not getting dinged for not recognizing the name of an astronaut. (grin).

Lovely pics, and I like seeing what the geocache looks like :) Welcome home, or almost home, whichever the case may be!

Just in last night, home around midnight.
