Back to the jobsite :)
Sep. 13th, 2005 10:51 amAfter the arrival of
karen_by_night, we wandered off again... shoarma for lunch near the Leidseplein, shopping in Waterlooplein, wandering around....
We eventually wandered over to the Rijksmuseum... where I saw may favorite two paintings from their collection: Vermeer's milkmaid (I thought of
patgreene often... it is arguably her favorite, and she introduced me)

And Steen's goose:

Kathleen was a bit lagged coming out of the dark, quiet museum, but held up very well.
We took her to a pancake-house for her birthday dinner, then she and Sarah fell asleep early...

Yesterday was relatively uneventful, returning to Rio Tinto. A two colleagues (HC and Alois, from Munich via the Univ. of Oklahoma) were nearly killed or severely injured when a metal block bounce on to their hood and through the windshield on the A--66 freeway. Thankfully the windshield wiper caught the 2kg block...
Today... back to work. Installed a repeater in the hotel, helped configure a new RAID-5 terabyte backup server, filed monthly reports for August, remotely. And went grocery shopping in Nerva's only supermarket... El Jamon, naturally ;^)

On my way home, I saw a couple of donkeys near the campground:...

...made dinner in the cottage: orange-glazed pork loin chops, tortellini tossed with oregano and parmesan, ham croquettes as a starter, plus bread and an excellent wine, all for about E12.
