Back in the office today... got my repaired laptop yesterday and have spent most of the day transferring files from the past month, going through paper mail and voicemail. Had an excellent lunch with [personal profile] tenacious_snail and gave her her left-behind socks and windbreaker from Spain.

While I was out of the country:

-- My immediate boss left, suddenly
-- Locks were changed in my building
-- Badges were reissued in a new design
-- a large software company (Google) announced plans to pave over the wetlands and nature trails here for its corporate HQ near my building (I wonder if Peter just missed the view of the bay...)

My computer bag fell apart in Spain, and I had a new durable leather rolling laptop carrier here waiting when I arrived, which was nice.

Tonight marks the first Wednesday night ice skating lesson of the season...

OH NO! They can't DO that about the wetlands! Did some initiative pass when we weren't looking, or did they just bribe a whole lot of people???

Google probably threatened the Sunnyvale and Mountain View city councils that they'd go to south San Jose unless the cities lowered their objections.

I'm sorry to add to that list in stating that the coffee pot got a stress fracture from temperature changes and died.

It's time to go shopping for a new one.

Let me know if you want to go find one with me...

I was wondering where my carafe had gone... lost in the line of duty last week, sounds like. I may have another old one at home.

Eeek, I hope someone has told them it aint gonna happen (edited, far more polite version than my original thoughts).

That presumes that the current US administration would favor preserving wetlands over corporate development... NASA isn't going to object, unfortunately. Those burrowing owls are in trouble.

I'd heard that Google was going to build on some of the property around there, but not that it was wetlands. Sheesh.

I hope you had a good day!
