Well, to be honest, it wasn't that I *knew* something was an error: it was an interesting fact that I decided to doublecheck with other sources. (A case of "This looks too good to be true.")
Basically, Roald Dahl's first novel was called "The Gremlins," which the EB claimed was later "made into a popular movie." But it wasn't. The book was about mysterious creatures that plagued airplanes and caused mishaps -- the movie wasn't, but was about cute fuzzy creatures which became hairless demons if placed in water. Gremlins as envisioned by Dahl were used in several Warner Brothers Bugs Bunny shorts, but that's not what the EB had in mind, I don't think.
