Well, I finally made it back to the office... at 1:30am. Instead of 3:30pm. While there were a couple of bright points (lunch with [personal profile] dawnd and seeing [profile] zahl again), the rest of it was a frustrating armpit of a day. I was rebuffed by a friend and by a sweetie, and yelled at publicly by a different sweetie. I missed a late-afternoon meeting with JL. On my way to lunch, my Mustang threw its harmonic balancer on 238 in Hayward, and I had to take it to a local shop near Dawn *and* find a dealership with the part and ferry it over to them. It cost me $270...

Finally, I picked it up around 6:45pm. Since I was already nearby, I was going to join a group that went to see [personal profile] kineticphoenix's play... caught in traffic... turned around and lost. Too late for the play, so I went to VSB instead... saw [profile] zahl. Then was yelled at by someone else, and the rest of the evening was stressful and frustrating.

Murphy was regnant yesterday... even the sunny weather had turned to cold rain by evening (and I didn't have a jacket, heh). Hug appreciated, sweetie. 9 days, 4:20 and counting... that thought helps. :)

Will you guys have net access once afloat?

Same way I did in the boatyard, in fact. I use Verizon's "aircard" to connect just about anywhere that they have service.

(wry grin) the way last night went overall, I'd have been better off following your example!

Is that all it costs? I once traded in a truck because I thought the wonky balancer would cost tons to fix. On the other hand, it was a piece of garbage in lots of other ways, so it wasn't a bad deal. I got my Neon out of it, which has lasted years.

It helped greatly that Bobby, my local mechanic in Mountain View, helped me diagnose the problem over my cellphone from the specific banging sound the engine made... knowing the specific problem, I could then call around and get a quote on the balancer ($129 plus tax) from a local Ford dealer. And [personal profile] akienm helpfully pointed me at the local shop that he used... Bobby had told me it should take 1-2 labor hours, so I negotiated 1.5 hours in advance with the local shop ($138). If I'd just shown up looking clueless, or been female, they might well have tried to charge me $400-500 instead.

Simply picking up the part myself and dropping it off at the shop saved me about $50 in markup...

Thankfully... but it leaves me gun-shy for going out at all for a day or two. I'm in a "just want to hole up somewhere for awhile" mindset.

It was -very- good to see you yesterday night, even though I was not feeling as physically well as I usually do. A few minor things, but taken together, they add up to a less resilient and fun me to be around. Nothing that even registers as Big Sick, more of the - Ya Know, I'm Being a Bit Overambitious with My Evening But Don't Want To Drop Any Part Of It, because sometimes I am silly like that.

I was very glad to see you, and hope that you know that! Ummm... if I were to find a nice cave, with some comfy chairs, reading material, and a good supply of tea, would you or TS like to be given the location of said cave? I would share the cave with you all.

Refuge is good... a refuge with your warm and comforting presence, even better. :) Although I personally tend towards coffee.

A pleasant surprise indeed

Seeing you was cool indeed. There are not too many people around that could have pulled me out of /my/ cave...

(Mostly I was still sick, and partly because of [livejournal.com profile] njaard leaving for England.)

Thanks for your advice, too btw. ;>
