After three years of being plateaued at Freestyle 1, this morning I successfully demonstrated my required maneuvers and did a 2.5 minute program to music, in front of a panel of three judges, my coach and [profile] patgreene, [personal profile] tenacious_snail and [personal profile] cyan_blue.

It was IMO an 80% performance, I was surprisingly stiff and jittery at first and actually fell once while doing maneuvers... but I recovered, maintained my composure and then skated a good program to put me over the pass/fail edge. :)

And on a completely unrelated note, today is the 25th anniversary of the first Space Shuttle launch... I remember watching it from the Senior House lounge at MIT.

It was lovely to watch your grace and strength... You made moves look fluid that I know must have taken a lot of careful control, and you were beautiful out there.

It was lovely as well to be there together with [livejournal.com profile] patgreene and [livejournal.com profile] tenacious_snail, sharing pride in you and love for you and concern for you.

Awww... (blush). One bit of feedback from the judges was that I ought to use more upper-body coordination, I tend to use my leg and hip strength to muscle-through maneuvers, burning more energy than I'd need if my arms and shoulders were more engaged. At further-advanced levels, I'll have to learn to do that, in order to continue to improve my skating.

I felt warm and loved and supported to see the three of you waving me on, together there by the window. :)
