Suggestions for NYC hotel?

I'm going to be overnight in NYC on 5/18... anyone there have hotel suggestions? I'm looking for smaller places, the chains are all sold out and I have to book a government rate room... need to be on Manhattan, for work the next day.

Last time I was in Manhattan, I stayed at the Park South Hotel. It was pretty nice.

Thanks... it was already sold out on the 18th-19th.

Look at the B&Bs. There are some great websites out there that are B&B-only and some of them are surprisingly cheap.

Hmmm... good idea, if they'll do one-night stays and take credit cards.

I used to book a room at Morgans for my price-conscious, art-loving ex-boss all the time.

Well... their cheapest room is $359, Federal per-diem in NYC is limited to $201 per night for hotels, the difference comes out of pocket... but thanks for the suggestion.

Interesting. I don't know what kind of discounts he might have had, because as of two years ago, at least, it was easy to get rooms for under $200 there.

Park central is very good.

You might also check for something in NJ or Queens, depending on which airport you're flying into. If the hotel is near the subway, and if your meeting isn't too early in the morning, then you could commute into Manhattan.

Oh, and in case you're interested in knowing more of the local lingo, one typically says that one is "in Manhattan," rather than "on Manhattan." *kiss* ;-)

What time is your meeting, and where are you flying into?

No reservations yet... I'll let you know. Probably going into/out of EWR for its public transit link to Penn Station.

They were looking at rates for next weekend and not mid-week, but it's a starting point.

Interesting list for future reference, but I checked half of them and they were $280 and up for 5/18-19, most around $400. Could be the short lead time, or midweek business rates?
