we are stranded on I5 in the middle of nowhere... transmission died, at midnight. Mile 324. two hours from home...sigh. It is very dark, am using the Treo as a flashlight.

You're blogging this from the middle of nowhere?????

Good luck on being resacued promptly and effectively!

well... there are no freeway exits within 5 miles, nor any lights. Great seeing, if I had a telescope...

I get dark skies so seldom that it would be good without a telescope!

Good luck!

DO YOU WANT SOMEONE TO CALL CHP?

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Already home, but thanks. :)

Goodness, but this is just a bit too much bad stuff to happen to you folks in a week.
Many hugs, dear... You are, as ever, in my thoughts. Hope the situation goes as smoothly as it possibly can from here. Please let me know if there's anything I can do.

Thanks, love... right now, I'm just numb and in threat-assessment, adrenalized mode. (hug)

well I hope you get home so you can catch your flight!

And to be stuck soo close to home sure stinks!!

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 05:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Have caught the flight. :) Thanks...

I rented a minivan (so I could haul 5 passengers plus luggage), and picked them up from a motel in Coalinga. Their minivan got towed to a Ford dealership in Coalinga. out the door to take Jay to SFO to fly to Atlanta. Pat hadn't slept in 24 hours...hopefully she will now. I'll be home in a bit over an hour, and head to sleep then.

Thank you. (I mean, for updating. As well as the doing of the thing itself.)

Brian-- I haven't said, before, but I'm sorry for your loss. And good lord, I hope things improve at least slightly from here.

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, I hope so too! (wry grin)

you're welcome.

Friday was *quite* the adventure for Jay, Pat, and their kids, and I know that people were wondering about them, wanting an update, etc.

More fun about this: I got pulled over by a cop for the first time, ever. I was speeding (by about 12 MPH, which is faster than usual), but, thankfully, that wasn't why. I had been trying to insert a CD into an unfamiliar CD player and apparently made the minivan bobble and weave in a way that made the CHP officer think I might be driving erratically. He seemed completely fine with the "trying to insert CD" and "unfamiliar vehicle- just rented it and not familiar with how it handles" info, and while he ran a check on my license, he didn't ticket me. That gave *me* quite the adrenyline rush, though, and probably made me drive more slowly.

My cell phone goes sliding across the floor, so I miss a call from Jay, and he is worried that I didn't get the info on where they were after being towed.

I knock on the motel room door at around 4:30 am. Luggage and small boy are strewn all over the floor. The room is around 85-90 degrees. I get clasped by a very tired, somewhat sweat boyfriend. His sense of relief when I arrived made it completely and utterly worth it to pull an all-nighter, and drive abou 380 miles.

Apart from my first not-clearly-thinking impulse, which was to cuddle... ;)

Glad that you escaped the wrath of the CHP unscathed.

You were awesome, beloved! It was so good to see your face down there, after everything.

Jay, I am sorry to hear that you got stuck in coalinga of all places. We seem to be living a parrelle week this week. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Please have a safe flight. There is a bunch of hugs and cuddles waiting for you when we both get back. Love T

Thanks... (hug). Hope you have a safe trip southward.
