Need sewing help...

Three duffel bags shipped today to Resolute, containing my tent, camping gear, geology kit bag, a package for [personal profile] dangerpudding, my winter and technical clothes... and my portable plastic urinal, which is my birthday present given last night by [profile] patgreene. (grin)

However, I couldn't pack two of my silk long johns because of ripped seams. I need sewing help, else I'll need to order new ones ASAP. These have weight and texture in-between tights and women's hose, and the repairs don't have to be pretty (no one except me will see them :).

why don't you let me take a look at them?

I was thinking that she might want you to model them, depending on where the rips are....

[identity profile] mactavish.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I was wondering about that.

two of the rips were in the seams of the crotch gusset. I didn't mind fondling the region and embedding it with thoughts of my caresses.

I have decent hand-sewing skills, thankyouverymuch.

You've done cross-stitching, true... I just couldn't imagine you sewing *clothes*...

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
Not being able to mend a seam ranks up there with not being able to change a tire, IMO.

Mission Accomplished.

I was sure that you had the capacity -- cross-stitch is harder -- but it seemed too... femme? to be something you'd practice. Thanks!

Personally, I think my aran is a lot harder than any of the completed cross-stitch items of mine you've seen. But, granted, not femmey.

While I am willing to help out with the sewing, it looks like [livejournal.com profile] tenacious_snail has all ready offered, and I am definitely not on the more talented end of our community's sewing pool.

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
She actually hasn't offered to *sew*, merely to look at the damage... at this point, if I can't hand-mend them, I may just put in a rush order with WinterSilks.

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2006-07-06 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Her offer was actually "If I can take a look at them, I can tell you whether or not I *can* sew them"

[identity profile] yami-mcmoots.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
Do you have a sewing machine? If it can't be fixed with a stretch stitch, it's not worth fixing, IMO.

[identity profile] brian1789.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... I think that there is a machine in the house somewhere... but Pat doubts her capabilities with it, and I've never used one.

[identity profile] tenacious-snail.livejournal.com 2006-07-11 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
one of them was easy enough to fix. Split seams. The other had runs in them, and tears that would, if repaired, no longer fit a man.

I am *so* glad to hear about the portable urinal!

[identity profile] cyan-blue.livejournal.com 2006-07-04 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too.

(wry grin) hopefully no kidney stones a month later, this year...
