Today is windy... I overslept (alarm didn't go off, alas) and missed breakfast. Then my team went into the crater to begin setting up our drill site.
Sarah opening new stuff
I carried several small gifts and other items up for Sarah... here she is this morning, opening them.
Initial Traverse to Drillsite
This morning, the DAME team went out to the drill site en masse to begin building our camp there. Here we are, beginning to roll again after a brief break while Pascal talked about the crater's structure to those who were new. The MS hab is visible in the background.
Tent wrestling
Today's weather was/is partly cloudy but quite windy, about 15-25 knots with gusts. This made erecting the main drill tent a difficult task... we broke two poles, struggling against the wind! They're being repaired, and we're waiting for more calm before resuming.
What happened to all the flags in the dining tent??? I wrestled with a tent like the one in the picture in camp under fairly mild conditions, and it was a challenging feat then. I don't envy you working on it in that wind! It is 95 deg.F here, and the forecast is for 97 tomorrow. It is like stepping into a sauna when you go outside. Not sure which is worse...
