1.2M download, 134K up... may not sound like much, but that's going from my laptop via a local Apple Airport wireless access point, to a 2-mile radio modem link across the crater to a repeater, then another 3/4 mile to the main router and nameserver, thence to the C-band satellite link down to CRC in Ottawa, thence out to the internet...

Man, the Internet is amazing, isn't it? I'm getting daily updates from on-the-spot friends reporting on the war in Beirut, the bombings in Mumbai, and the weather in the Arctic. Plus the usual from people in London, Scandinavia, Australia, Canada, and all across the US. I used to get Egypt, too.
