No net access, until I finally figured out where to buy a prepaid card to use a local wireless net, so I'm far behind. Three or four urgent queries at work. Problems with drill shipping. And the bank that handles the rent payments can't accept my NASA-issued credit card, and NASA issues minimal cash advances for travel. So I have to somehow come up with another $900-equivalent in cash before we check out on Friday. On top of this, ATMs have mysteriously stopped accepting my cards. Sigh. This morning, for 2+ hours I was driving around trying to find someplace to give me a credit card cash advance... instead of actually being *at the conference*.

Over lunch today, I went clothes shopping with [personal profile] dangerpudding and [personal profile] tenacious_snail... why? Because of laundry disasters. Apparently, some previous tenants who did not understand Spanish were trying to consolidate remnants of laundry supplies, and poured their remaining bleach into the liquid laundry detergent bottle. And we used it. The first time, only a tiny amount with light-colored things, and no problem. The next... three shirts, pants and socks ruined, including the pants I'd just gotten at Nancy's. We thought it was something in the dispenser, so drained it. Next load... I had a rust streak on some pants, Les is pretreating while holding over the washer... and yells for me. Big light spots are appearing on the clothes below, from drips. My dress pants, more socks and some of her clothes are ruined. Sigh. So, clothes shopping over lunch.

On top of this, [profile] patgreene is sick, at home...

Yikes! How stressful! on the good side, I'm doing much better. No real fever, just fatigue at this point.

Would the clothes be reimbursable?

(grumble) no, since laundry is a personal responsibility... we should have checked the bottle.

Oh, hugs, love - I'm sorry it's being a day like that, and sorry for the loss of the nice things you got with Nancy.

With the $900 cash - will your workplace come through for you with that somehow, or do you want one of us to wire that to you via Western Union? Drop me a line if the latter would be of help; my credit card can carry that 'til they reimburse you if need be.

Hope things get better for you from here.

Did you call the credit card company and bank, telling them you'd be out of the country? If not, the not accepting your ATM card is one of those "to help/protect you" type services.

::hug:: Hope the rest of the trip goes well, and that you find fantabulous clothes to replace the damaged ones.

Yes, I'd called them all before I left the US. Turns out one was offline, another said that last month's payment was $20 short (I have automated payments set up) and so it was frozen.

Gah. That really sounds awful.

I hope that soon you find a way to pay for rent without any hassle and that you don't have any more laundry disasters.

You should be at the conference and out having fun... not dealing with these annoyances.

Hope [livejournal.com profile] patgreene feels better, soon, too.

*hugs*

Ow. So sorry about the laundry. Good luck finding some fun things to replace all that with!
