A bit sore, this week...
Dec. 12th, 2006 05:15 pmGood news... the new lunar architecture study calls for establishing a base over time, rather than Apollo-style one-shot missions. That means that use of local resources will be critical in the long term, and hence a need for site selection after robotic prospecting and surveying, and hence they will need our kind of technologies and widgets here. :) So our relevance is enhanced... and hopefully this will make it easier to get research funding.
Otherwise... yesterday I taught in two classrooms in San Jose, teaching a class of 5th graders about planetary and solar formation (using bits of Rice Krispie treats scattered on waxed paper) and then talked to LH's sixth grade class about rock identification and types and the kinds of fun detective stories one could unravel through them. Then had lunch with VSB before returning to the office. And later, a long, 2.5-hour couples session.
Today, we talked about those lunar resources in meetings... and I donated blood at work. Tomorrow I will be sore again, as it will be my annual physical including a full blood panel and screening and urine tests. Time to fast tonight.. and to stay away from poppyseed bagels and secondhand smoke ;)
