In San Diego now, checked in... got a rental and picked up Pat and the kids, who were stranded outdoors for 2 hrs. Tomorrow I drive back up to LA to get the van.
Turns out that the dealer in October did an incomplete job... replaced the blown fuse, but not the bad fuel pump. So the pump seized again and blew the fuse again. Grrr. So Ford is paying again for the same problem because Towne Ford in Redwood City was either cheap or incompetent...

Hi there! Any suggestions wrt non-Mexican kid-friendly restaurants? [personal profile] cyan_blue will have the kids this afternoon, while [profile] patgreene and I run back to Pasadena to get my minivan... then back by dinnertime. We're in El Cajon, but willing to go downtown... you'd be welcome to join us, if you're willing to risk being around kids recovering from various colds and such. :)

Hey, I live in El Cajon! For some reason, the places I"m most familiar with are either 24-hour or vegan/vegetarian.

Tyler's Taste of Texas, is good, if you like fried -- Wednesdays and Fridays are all you can eat catfish, and it's 24/7.

The usual chains abound -- name a favorite, and I probably know where the nearest is.

There's a new pizza place in the mall (Parkway Plaza), plus the usual food court stuff, and a few less-standard options, like the two crepe places.

Farther afield, Studio Diner is good (and also 24-hour); Sipz is tasty vegan/vegetarian Asian/fusion, with excellent chocolate-chip cookies.

Going beyond kid-friendly to kid/family-oriented, there's The Boardwalk, with a pizza buffet; I've never eaten there, but they have an arcade, bowling, billiards, etc. There's also a Boomers -- arcade, mini-golf, that sort of thing.

There's some sushi places I like, and one I've been meaning to try, but I'm not sure how kid-friendly those are.

I'm free around 8 tonight, which may be too late for you, and around 7 tomorrow, if you're still in town. Depending on when he gets in (plans not finalized), I may have [livejournal.com profile] toddashi with me.
