Twice in my life, I've stepped off of an airplane and headed home, only to be given bad news and redirected to a hospital. The first time was in 1998 when James was struck by a car while crossing the street. And again tonight... [livejournal.com profile] patgreene was re-admitted earlier tonight due to two abdominal infections (one at each incision) and a fever that spiked up to 104. Currently (I just got back from Stanford Hospital) the fever is broken, she's on IV antibiotics and morphine, and is feeling better (albeit woozy from the pain meds). Things could be much worse... and thank goodness that Pat's mom is here to help out and watch the kids, and a friend from our church brought over dinner tonight.

But I can't believe that Pat's gynecology clinic told her to just take an analgesic for the fever and call back tomorrow. These are the same guys that sent me home last week to do Pat's deep wet-pack dressings with just a bag of supplies. I'm not at all impressed with the quality of their post-operative care... good thing that her primary-care clinic was paying attention, or her condition could have gotten quite dangerous.

Otherwise, work today went well, I talked with the relevant FAA person that is handling future system-wide airspace database architectures. And got together in DC yesterday evening with [livejournal.com profile] geekchick for Thai food and sundry, and talked through some issues. But all of that is kind of overshadowed, at the moment. :-(

Do you need me out there? Is Eloise able to handle everything? Sounds like a real mess. How are you and the boys coping. Especially the boys. I know you can handle a lot at once. If you need me, just ask. I know I'm not Pat's favorite person but I can clean, cook and take care of you and the boys.

Remember how much you are loved.

Sorry to hear about all the scary stuff, and all the coping unpleasantness that's resulting. *hugs*

I'm so sorry to hear that Pat was re-hospitalized. I was worried yesterday when I saw several LJ entries about an increasing fever. (I wish I'd seen them as they were happening instead of all at once at the end; I could have done something.)

The state of health care in this country has been getting worse and worse. To be safe, everyone really must be his own advocate, getting informed about medical conditions and keeping an eye on everything the doctors do. I can't tell you how many times doctors have tried to prescribe meds that my kids are allergic to, or ignored other medical history.

visiting Pat

I am so sorry you folks are going through this.
I will be in Palo Alto tomorrow afternoon.
If Pat can have visiters, please let me know (off LJ) where I can find her, and you too, if you would like to coordinate that.

I recommend filing a complaint with the AMA when all of this blows over. If you can, keep as much documentation of all this as you can.

My very best wishes to you 'n Pat. Would she like me to come by the hospital and visit? I could come by this evening.

Twice in my life, I've ...headed home, only to be given bad news and redirected to a hospital.

I HATE when that happens! I came back from a week-long music retreat one year to find [livejournal.com profile] akienm in the hospital, having scratched his cornea. It wasn't too serious, fortunately, but it was definitely not my idea of fun. And the next year, he waited a few days to do himself damage. After the same retreat, at the first-ever marshall arts class that I'd let him talk me into doing with him, he twisted his knee and basically broke it (leaving me to do the class alone for three months, until the second time the car got broken into outside of the dojo and the school admins told me I should park farther away, and walk a mile, alone, through Oakland, at night). *sigh* It got so I didn't ever want to leave for trips anymore.

I am in complete sympathy with you guys, and I agree that it sounds like the gyn clinic are absolute bozos.

*hugs*

Oh, sweetie... yes, for somebody that has recently had major surgery, a fever is not something to take aspirin and wait to see if it goes down. >:( All my best wishes to you and Pat, of course, always.

I'm really sorry to hear about that, but I'm REALLY glad that she is getting in-hospital treatment..

*shakes her head* I often wish I could have more faith in healthcare these days..

all my best wishes to a speedy recovery. I hope you can hang in there- take care of yourself!

*HUG*

That is one experience I've thus far been spared. I'm glad things are under control, and I hope that Pat continues to improve. My best wishes to you both.

Geez. I wouldn't be impressed with that either. Or perhaps I am impressed, but in a negative direction. . . .

I really hope things start getting better for you guys. . .

Ohshit.

Is Pat all right now? Are you all right?

I wish I'd been online earlier this weekend, but circumstances stopped me :(

Hugs to you both, and to the boys.
