Last week, while passing through Minneapolis, I finally got to try on my new shiny black leather pants. Despite being marked as "size 12", they fit! Albeit snugly and rather form-fitting. Now I just need an excuse to wear them (grin)...

Albeit snugly and rather form-fitting . . .

Aw, some people have all the problems. ;)

Certain people are already teasing me about cross-dressing, given that they're in a women's size... I don't care, as long as they fit and look good. (smile)

Size 12--that gives you useful information. This means they are Ladies' size 12, in all likelihood.

I'm sure you can find any number of places to wear snug, form-fitting leather jeans. Most of your friends (nearly all of the female and some of the guys, I'll bet) would not object in the least, under just about any circumstance!

;^)

I had thought that size-12 had about a 31" waist, but these are at 34" (and hence fit). But I thought that I needed a special or social event to wear them...

Akien has been known to wear his leather pants to WORK on occasion (usually Halloween, or some other special occasion, granted). He'll wear them to just about any party, though, if he feels like it. And sometimes to other events (say the Poly Potluck, or other "meeting" type event) if he thinks it'll impress one or more of his interests! Leather pants are particularly nice paired with a silk shirt, if you have one (and if you don't--put it on your B-day/Christmas list!).

Regarding the size--you have also discovered the other thing about women's clothes--sizing is apparently random. One size 12 is not necessarily the same as another size 12, even of the same brand. This is part of why it takes women so long to shop for clothes--it's not JUST that we can't make up our minds ;^) --it's that we have to try on EVERY SINGLE ITEM or we don't know if it'll fit. No such thing as walking into a store and saying "I wear a size 12--what have you got?" I have clothes in my closet (these all FIT me, mind you) ranging from a size 4 (a raincoat) to a size 20 (a dress with ties that adjust the fit at the waist).

Maybe on Halloween... if I make a pact with [personal profile] hopeforyou to do likewise ;-). Although I'm not invited to many parties, there are always the monthly potlucks. It would have certain advantages in wiping up food spills... that's why there are leather seats in my minivan (given my kids).

The sizing issue surprises me, and yes, explains aspects of women's shopping behaviors that had been previously obscured... it isn't rational to vary the dimensions. What's the use of a sizing standard, then? (shakes head) But I'm glad that it fits, in this case.

it isn't rational to vary the dimensions.

Women vary more in proportion than men, by and large. Sometimes it drives me crazy that there's only nominal standardization in the women's fashion industry. But being a "non-standard" body type, most of the time I'm grateful that there's enough variation that I can sometimes find clothes to fit.

"snugly and form-fitting"? Mm-mm-mm.

But I'm disappointed that the link on the words "leather pants" didn't lead to a photo...
