Today I was back at work, after seeing a doctor yesterday. Strep was negative, it's just a cold. Lots of meeting time spent on Mars-drilling prototypes today -- two hours on the software interface to a spectrometer for the mole this morning, three hours this afternoon on the overall software architecture for the full-blown remote drilling experiment in Spain in 2+ years.

And [personal profile] hopeforyou made it down from SF today for the first time since the move, even though she was late to the first meeting. Eventually she'll work out the traffic timings from the new place, I expect. SD had her new data acquisition board and sensors and was very happy. LB came in to do her part-time stint, and will be helping us again with Arctic logistics this summer.

And David got an award this morning for his outstanding academic and behavioral progress -- he now meets or exceeds his grade level standards and isn't nearly as disruptive in class (compared to the previous year).

I never expected a casual remark in the last entry to generate a 50-comment thread... I've spent seven or eight hours just on replies, an order of magnitude longer than the original conversation ;-). I was home sick for most of it, anyway... no one can accuse me of puffing-up my poly or personal credentials, I expect that that Tuesday's discussion only led many folks to view me even more weirdly than previously. (wry chuckle)

Not much socializing lately, or planned... I've only had lunch out once in three weeks, and there are no dates or parties scheduled in the near future. Nothing this weekend... I may take the kids to a drive-in in San Jose Saturday night to see "Finding Nemo." Saturday is also closing day for Little League, with three different team parties to dutifully attend that afternoon (sorry, [personal profile] serenejournal :-( , one for each child. Sunday... no plans at all, other than to call my father in Atlanta. Maybe I'll rip open the kitchen walls and install task lighting and a new double-pole circuit for the overhead lights...

I feel reminded and stuff.

[livejournal.com profile] teinedreugan and I were discussing the Mars probes that are launching around now the other day -- he wanted to know, are you working at all with Spirit or with the other one?

Incidentally, he's expressed an interest in possibly talking shop next time he's in your area visiting [livejournal.com profile] suzimoses. (He drives Chandra.)

A friend of mine drives Mars Surveyor, likewise ;-). I'm not working on either of the MER rovers (colleagues here are heavily involved in their task-planning, but I'm not) but would be happy to talk-shop. [profile] suzimoses lives within walking distance of me, on the other side of the tracks...

Right. :) I'll let him know. (He's planning on heading out there sometime this summer, but we're still very nebulous.)

Sorry I won't be seeing you Saturday. I'll be back up in July, though, at least once, and then every month after that until I finally find a way to move up there, so we'll likely see each other. And hey, next time you're in Southern California, I promise not to blow you off. :-)

Thanks. I'm having to miss your lunch and another event that I would have liked to attend Saturday, because of Little League team parties. Sigh... a minor sacrifice made for my kids, etc. Hope to see you on your next visit!
