Perhaps it is cooler weather, or the return of rainfall here, or shorter days... but my purple irises are blooming in the front yard. About a third of the plants have blossoms or emerging bud-stalks.

At the same time, the neighbors across the street put up their Christmas lights before Halloween...

Off to see a couple of lovely ladies over lunch, after another chiropractor appointment -- I'm taking the day off, given the holiday tomorrow.

Hmm... How many people in your area have Christmas lights up now? Or... at what point do you think stores can start suggesting Christmas?

Just the one across the street... most people here wait until Advent begins. Stores... I wish they'd wait until after Thanksgiving.

There was an article on the Post on Sunday about how stores are actually putting out Christmas merchandise at about the same time they always have, despite how it seems to most people. The difference seems to be that instead of putting out an aisle of stuff in the back of the store, they're instead putting out more merchandise in more space than they had been.
