Drill stop, looking down

We broke off early this evening -- 9:30pm -- because the drill is broken. A link failed, and the lead assembly is down at the bottom of the hole. No more drilling until Wednesday sometime. It was a double-point failure, apparently both a sensor and the latch failed from dust.

Otherwise... my grandmother is worse, not eating and only drinking a little bit. My mom has flown back to Kansas to be with her there. The hospice-care folks say thaty she probably has only days left.

This has been hard... long hours at work, plus distance and stresses here haven't helped.

Viola Hawver, 1909-2005

About two hours ago, I received a call from [profile] patgreene that my grandmother died earlier this morning in Kansas. I don't know what I'm doing, here in Spain, and am still kind of shocky even though it wasn't unexpected.

when it rains...

[profile] patgreene has been coughing up more blood, her doctor thinks it is some kind of thrombosis, and she's been ordered to the emergency room at Stanford. I need overnight childcare if she gets admitted. And no one has told the kids yet about their grandmother.

I am trying to come home early -- the memorial service is Saturday afternoon -- but if Pat's hospitalized... (shakes head).

Oh, yeah, the drill is still broken, too...
