Well, it was a slightly different context (an in-joke, as it were) that I was teasing about, but I definitely think there should be a line of thank you cards for partners' partners. =)
I don't think warm-up was required in that particular case. Remember, my request was for you to extinguish the situation, not to ignite it, so to speak.
