Topeka to St. Louis to Chicago... 620 miles. Whew.... got in at 10:30pm. Filled with pizza and otherwise stressed, I couldn't sleep...

Today: museums, and on to my Aunt's place in Howard, OH.



Before leaving Topeka, we drove past Fred Phelp's Westboro Baptist Church, the one with the "godhatesamerica.com" banner... euww. But educational, as a (bad) example.



Late afternoon was spent around St. Louis, including a ride up inside the Gateway Arch. Here's Saarinen's futuristic tram compartment... patgreene said it felt claustrophobic.

Driving on to Chicago (no sunglasses after dark ;), we went downtown to the original Due's on Wabash for deep-dish pizza. Three pieces... I waddled out... mmm.

I am so envious. It's been my dream for years to do a road trip. I just love all the mundane differences of our country. I could probably drive around for years.

Just 11 days... not long, compared to yours, but with longer legs and shorter stays in any place.

Did you have a wait to go up the Arch? When my parents were there a couple of weeks ago, they were told it would be a 2.5 hour wait to go up (so they did some other stuff instead and headed home).

On a Wednesday afternoon... no wait at all. Up or down. We bought tickets, got on the tram (there were empty compartments), went up, looked around, and went down. Total elasped time was < 1/2 hour...
