I'm checked in and settled in my hotel in Tyson's Corner, waiting to go out later for dinner with the lovely [personal profile] geekchick, who is on her way.

After being stranded in the rain in the predawn darkness this morning, my flights were uneventful. Given 3 hours of sleep last night, I slept for most of the journey... despite a well-meaning guy from Oregon sitting next to me who was a chatterbox and had big elbows. The guy even tried to teach me sudoku... I finally just stared out the window and dozed off.

After landing at BWI, I scrambled... made it to a local Starbucks near the airport, in time to meet an online friend, [personal profile] archway, for the first time. Yay! We tried this unsuccessfully last summer in North Carolina. She seemed strange and familiar at once... more layers and flashes of familiar aspects as we talked and sipped our beverages. And she's got the boldness and mischeviousness and Amazon warrior-nature that I'd expected. And was striking in green velvet, on her way with her sweetie B. to a later event. (smile) These meet-someone-IRL scenarios have an edge on uncertainty and excitement, at least for me, and this one turned out very well.

Otherwise... I've found the Kinko's that has my poster for the conference...

Glad you made it to the Starbucks on time, and that this Kinko's-and-poster didn't involve wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Actually...

The poster had several graphics misprinted -- [personal profile] geekchick caught it (don't I have highly useful sweeties? :) and I took it back to Kinko's today to be reprinted. After I'd had a 15-min battle with them yesterday over tax-exempt status, just as in Texas two weeks ago.

Oh, boy, Tyson's Corner. I had a meeting there last year. You have my sympathies. I hope your meeting is fascinating enough that you don't have time to think about the location.

(chuckle) actually, I used to live four miles from here, and IMO it's no worse than the shopping area and office buildings around Stanford. Albeit with better traffic here ;-).
