Today I left Edmonton and travelled to Resolute via Yellowknife and Cambridge Bay. I was armed with music and a book from [personal profile] geekchick, and wearing [personal profile] tenacious_snail's warm shirt... had my Canadian North-provided "Cafe Franklin" as we crossed the Arctic Circle.

The first two hops northward from Edmonton (Edmonton - Yellowknife and Yellowknife - Cambridge Bay) are on convertible 737-200s with a gravel kit. My plane is being loaded with a cargo pallet.

This stuffed polar bear in Yellowknife airport baggage claim was once mounted upright outside the FirstAir ticket counter. I had gone inside to buy stamps and a shotglass, and the gift shop owner turned out to be from SLO...

Also, I discovered that my cellphone now works in Yellowknife. :-)

Waiting in Cambridge Bay... I casually mentioned to the Kenn Borek agent that two years ago, a tour group had vastly gone over the 44kg/person limit, and we had to spend an extra hour flying in a noisy, unpressurized, slower plane (Twin Otter) instead of the smaller, faster Beech 10. History repeated... he may have taken my "suggestion", given how vastly overpacked the Arctic Watch-bound group was.

On the shadowed side of the South Camp Inn, looking towards Resolute Bay, just after midnight. We're having beautiful weather, sunny and clear and about 40F.

Thanks for the pics! I am as entertained by the sunlight-at-midnight imagery as I was one year ago... :-)

I am up and on im if you feel like chatting, btw... Dawn is driving us on the second leg between Phoenix and Tucson at the moment. But, given the late hour, you might well be headed to bed!

*hugs* and safe journeying tomorrow :-)

Your baggage claim is so much more interesting than our baggage claim.

Damn, but you know, I may well continue on the "fall (deeper) in love with Jay when he's in the arctic". You keep showing yourself to be very, very lovable, and utterly worth keeping.

What is a Cafe Franklin? I'm thinking "coffee with a $20USD" but that doesn't seem like a reasonable answer.

Basically, Irish coffee but with Canadian whisky? It's free and warm, unlike the Franklin expedition in the 1840s (who perished here).
