Today I left Edmonton and travelled to Resolute via Yellowknife and Cambridge Bay. I was armed with music and a book from
geekchick, and wearing
tenacious_snail's warm shirt... had my Canadian North-provided "Cafe Franklin" as we crossed the Arctic Circle.

Loading 737-convertibles at Edmonton
The first two hops northward from Edmonton (Edmonton - Yellowknife and Yellowknife - Cambridge Bay) are on convertible 737-200s with a gravel kit. My plane is being loaded with a cargo pallet. |

Polar bear in Yellowknife airport
This stuffed polar bear in Yellowknife airport baggage claim was once mounted upright outside the FirstAir ticket counter. I had gone inside to buy stamps and a shotglass, and the gift shop owner turned out to be from SLO...
Also, I discovered that my cellphone now works in Yellowknife. :-) |

Time to haul out a bigger plane
Waiting in Cambridge Bay... I casually mentioned to the Kenn Borek agent that two years ago, a tour group had vastly gone over the 44kg/person limit, and we had to spend an extra hour flying in a noisy, unpressurized, slower plane (Twin Otter) instead of the smaller, faster Beech 10. History repeated... he may have taken my "suggestion", given how vastly overpacked the Arctic Watch-bound group was. |

Midnight in Resolute
On the shadowed side of the South Camp Inn, looking towards Resolute Bay, just after midnight. We're having beautiful weather, sunny and clear and about 40F. |

Date: 2006-07-16 04:11 pm (UTC)What is a Cafe Franklin? I'm thinking "coffee with a $20USD" but that doesn't seem like a reasonable answer.
