V-Day blues

And it isn't just because my paper is late... I generally dread today, and am usually left feeling inadequate, bereft, or both. Gestures are confused, dinners are disastrous, and I always forget something or someone. All for a commercially-manipulated holiday... sigh.

Well, my V-day has passed me by, and I'm feeling all of the above angst. This was not a day that I enjoyed. Doesn't help it that in Japan, its only girls who are suppose to give chocolate to boys so I was surrounded by most of my male colleagues getting a bounty of gifts from my female students (my school has about 80% female students).

Only females giving tokens to males? Hmmm... I wonder how that originated, since it's a Western holiday in the first place? Too bad you didn't get any recognition, yourself... I sympathize (hug). That's usually my role over here...
