Until an event that is typically more stressful than an annual performance evaluation... a local poly pool party with 50-100 attendees. Lacking a local date, I've almost always gone alone... and sometimes foundered, without a safety-person there for emotional support. This time, there will also be a few people there that are likely to quietly mock me, whom I'll be avoiding. If it weren't the largest local community event, and I wasn't also starved for higher-energy social space, I might skip it. But I won't... wish me luck.

Hey - I really wish I could come along with you!

Good luck!
I think you will do fine. With a 100 poeple there... you can gravitate toward those with good vibes toward you.

If I were there.. I'd hang out with you!
It is kind of hard to go to those huge group throng events without a companion. I admire your courage. It's not easy.

And remember this: anyone who is there 'quietly mocking you', is really not worthy of much of your time or energy. If that's the most interesting thing they have to do at a party.. then they need to re-evaluate their social priorities, get a hobby, something.
;)
and... don't let your imagination go too wild on that idea. I bet most people will just be there to have fun......
enjoy.

Well I can't imagine anyone being so callow as to mock another's wounds... I don't know if this makes you feel at all better, but M and I are planning on being there.

Huh.

That kinda sounds like fun. I'm probably not on the right mailing lists to get invited to stuff like that.

Good luck! Just avoid known snarkys.

upcomming event.

You flatter me ;-). But any hugs and cuddles that you'd like from me are yours... I'll be there.

It has its own mailing list, which itself is publicly announced on several poly lists... I'll forward a link.

Great! I'll look forward to seeing you there.

As far as mocking goes... several of the [profile] dot_cattiness folks will be there.

(grin) I really wish that I could hang out with you sometime, whether here or there! Not planning any Spanish holidays next month, perchance?

Thanks! I feel like I'm a bit better-prepared emotionally nowadays than I was a couple of years ago. And floating alone and lonely among throngs is less likely than it once was, I think. But I'm still reluctant to approach strangers and introduce myself, I'll be arriving halfway through the party and I'll be arriving and leaving alone...

If I were there.. I'd hang out with you!

Awww... thanks. The one time we were introduced in person, you were the co-hostess of this party, so I'm honored. Although you'd be, um, busy if you were actually at a party down here, I suspect.

don't let your imagination go too wild on that idea

If I'm lucky, that group and I won't interact and will scarcely notice each other.

Sadly, no... although I'm currently reading about Catalonian food and have a yen to visit and try some!

Surely you can summon up a business trip to the UK some time - visit Prof Pillinger at the OU or something? :-)

Hmm... I'm scheduled to get weekends off, (e.g. 10-12 October) and there are Seville-Heathrow fares for around $138... how long does it take to get from LHR to your area?

According to what others have told me, he and [profile] 7patches are going contra dancing. OTOH, [personal profile] rmjwell is likely to be there, with his friends. Last weekend, I was actually worried about encountering you, likewise ;-).

The Ogre was never told this.
At present no one is banned from the event, as publicly stated by the host.

I believe that you're right... I haven't heard of anyone being banned from the event.

Urm! To get from Heathrow to us by public transport is quickest on express bus (as you have to change trains, I believe), and would take about 3 hours with a bus every hour during the day. Driving yourself would take slight less, both modulo traffic of course.

What an audacious suggestion! (Spain's a long way from England by European standards, as you know) My delay in replying isn't so much shock and awe (!) as having lost this thread temporarily, however :-) I have to admit that you've - completely sweetly and unintentionally - caused me a moral dilemma, though - I've got this 'thing' about irresponsible burning of fossil fuels, so help me! :-)

It would be really lovely to see you! Are you sure you can't come up with a legitimate business reason to be in the UK?!
