The current administration, undoubtedly trying to continue the process of beatifying IMO one of the worst presidents in US history, has declared the day of the funeral (this Friday, 6/11) to be a Federal holiday. I don't know what to do... I certainly don't want to buy their symbolism. Whether to ignore the day off and come in to work anyway... or possibly I could instead pursue some activity that would horrify the conservative right. More than merely freedom of speech and thought... isn't it Pride weekend in SF?

SF Pride isn't till the end of the month(Sa 26 Jun). Santa Cruz was this recent weekend. Hmmmn.

But a good train of thought...

This weekend is Napa Valley Pride (http://www.napapride.org/) though. that could be quite fun!

You could work a casual half-day, and get stuff done without the red-tape folks running around...and then go about personal things on the other half-day...

That's my thoughts...and how I spent confederate memorial day this year...

Take the day. Reagan probably owed you a few.

Come in to work if that's truly what would make you happiest. Otherwise, why (as my mother would say) cut off your nose to spite your face? Take the day off and flirt with guys, write an essay on your own political views, watch your favorite porn, send a campaign contribution to someone of your choice... whatever. :-) Hey, symbolism! Figure out your net pay for that day and ship it off to your favorite candidate. ;-)

I suggest we go out to a bar and have a better repeat experience of that really horrid Friday I had where R and others showed up at St. Stephen's pub...

Quite honestly, this is news to me. Wish they'd give us more advance notice, but then that means Ron would have had to cack off sooner.

I wish I didn't have to work Friday, now! That'd be fun!

Just enjoy the day off, it doesn't have to Mean Something[tm].

Personally, I'm taking the time off. Realistically they would have shut things down regardless of which former President died. Having said that, I'm planning an outing to Dupont Circle with trips to the HRC store and Lambda Rising on Friday.

Too bad it doesn't start a day sooner... hmm. Must think of *something*...

Good idea -- I may just do something similar, go in for the morning and clean up loose details.

Reagan originated the practice of docking every Federal employee's pay by six hours per year involuntarily for estimated time wasted... this was particularly annoying in 1987-88, when I joined NASA and was working 70-80 hour weeks...

I agree with your approach ;-). Although I don't remember a shutdown when Nixon died...

Hey, Friday's also the last day of school, locally... not to mention our next couples therapy appointment, that night.

A candidate that wouldn't exactly align well with the far right... that's good. I'd flirt with more guys if I could find some that would... ;-).

LOL... as though we'd expect actual efficiency from the QSS office in notifications...

I'm game for some cider, as long as no one supposes that we're holding a wake for the Gipper... ;-)

All the more reason to take a nice, relaxing day off and do something fun beforehand, I'd think.
