In nine days, I've lost the four pounds that I gained in Spain. Some of that must have been retained water, and I'm still 7 lbs. over my long-term plateau weight. Reducing lunches to a piece of cheese has helped, as has lots of exercise over the past week. And I've tightened my arms and pecs with some weightlifting, and begun to get my abs back under control. Not back in shape by any means, but progress.

Sounds good :-)

May I make a suggestion? With the exercise, a piece of cheese probably isn't all bad. But you might find that getting the same calories from a mixed salad which includes nuts, might be better for you overall? Nuts tend to have a lower proportion of saturated fat, and then there are added vitamins and minerals in the salad ingredients.

But where does one find a salad with nuts? Maybe I could make up something and carry it during the day in a plastic bag... hmm. The 2oz. of cheese is only 220 kcal, but has enough protein to keep hunger pangs away until evening (reducing the temptation to snack). And I can eat it in 3 minutes while working in my office :-).

All my salads have nuts and seeds :-) Anywhere which does vegan salads will have them. The easy thing is to buy a bag of mixed green salad leaves and then rapidly jazz it up by dumping in whatever you like. Nuts, seeds, grains and pulses for protein. Cherry tomatoes, dried fruit, grated carrot... this is what G has for lunch :-) D is jealous of your lunches, BTW - after a cholesterol test, cheese is off the menu :-(

It isn't necessarially protein which keeps the hunger pangs at bay, BTW. Oh, and you know what I'm going to say about not taking a break from your office for lunch :-)

What do you use for a dressing? Nuts and grains might work for me, but I'm not fond of seeds or pulses. (Thinks favorably of smoked almonds and honey-roasted pecans...) Dried fruit is okay, I developed a taste for dried mangoes in the Arctic (along with cheese-covered ramen;) in field subsistence.

Thankfully, cholesterol has never been a concern... thanks to heredity, it's never gone over 160 (and my ratioes are all in the "very low risk" categories). Likewise with trigylcerides. Blood pressure is my area of long-term health concern.

Good olive oil, with a little lemon juice or balsalmic vinegar. usually.

I'm interesting that you like some nuts, but have not found any seeds that you like. I find pumpkin seeds very nutty (and they are apparently a good source of iron). Unfortunately, fresh green peas apparently don't have the protein content of ripened dried peas, as most people like fresh peas :-) Pulses cold in salads are an acquired taste, I agree - but how about a salad in a tortilla with hot refried beans and some salsa?

Glad to hear about the cholesterol. What is the latest advice on blood pressure?
